10/5 Day 20 – Castletownshend to Crookhaven

After the winds of yesterday, we awoke to a fine morning. A fairly straightforward paddle round Toe Head saw us arrive at Baltimore around lunchtime. On entering Baltimore We bumped into Jim Kennedy ( atlanticseakayaking.com ). We had camped at Jim’s base the night before, and was interested in what we are trying to do. Jim is a Level 5 coach who has competed at international level. Despite never having met us before, he immediately produced a donation whilst on the water. Although we only spoke for a few minutes, it was a real pleasure to meet him.

Baltimore had a cosmopolitan feel about it – probably due to the good weather and the impending folk festival. We treated ourselves to a lunchtime pizza before heading on our way.

We wound our way through various islands, and past the aptly named Long Island, before arriving at Galley Cove late in the evening. There was one other camper – a lady called Oona Tibbett, who is SUP’ing round the coast to raise awareness of plastic pollution.

With Mizen Head beckoning the next day, we all retired to our tents to see what weather the morning would bring….
